Doctors remove COCONUT stuck up man's bottom in Taiwan
Shocked doctors removed a huge coconut that was stuck up a man's bottom following a sexual experiment gone wrong.
The patient, 56, had reportedly forced the tropical fruit up his rectum to increase sexual stimulation while masturbating at his home in Taiwan.
The coconut stayed inside him for two days before he could no longer handle the severe abdominal pain, anuria, and 'absolute constipation'.
Following several aborted attempts at removing it himself, the man finally staggered into the E-Da Hospital in Kaohsiung City to plead with doctors for help.
Dr Chen Zhiyi, director of general medical surgery at E-Da Hospital, revealed details of the case on Tuesday, March 19, as he warned residents to 'be careful when seeking stimulation'.
He said that had the patient not been treated, his bladder or intestines may have ruptured, leading to peritonitis and endangering his life.
Dr Chen said: 'This was a very rare case. The patient was lucky to still be alive. Fortunately, he did not suffer serious internal damage. He was told not to do it again.
'The patient admitted that he put the coconut into his rectum in search of stimulation.'
The case was first published by authors Yi-Chieh Chen and Chih-I Chen in the British Journal of Surgery in 2023 but details of the incident have emerged more recently following the warning by the doctor who handled the operation.
Medical records show that a tomography scan revealed the coconut lodged in the patient's rectal cavity, pressing against his prostatic urethra and causing his bladder to swell.
Doctors first tried to have the man eject the coconut through his anus, but as it was too large, they had to cut him open in a laparotomy operation.
Surgeons safely pulled the fruit from his abdominal cavity. It measured around 7.5cm long and 5.7cm wide at the base. They also drained around 2,000cc of urine the man had accumulated for two days.
The initial report in the British Journal of Surgery said the incident was a 'case of coconutention'.
They added: 'A 56-year-old man presented with a two-day history of severe abdominal pain, anuria, and absolute constipation.
'Abdominal CT showed a large foreign body in the rectum, which compressed the prostatic urethra, causing urinary retention. A coconut was removed from the rectum via exploratory laparotomy.'
