STORYLINE:

The Israeli army announced last week the start of a surprise military operation in the middle Gaza Strip as a part of the ongoing war against Hamas for over six months.

The Maghazi refugee camp bore the brunt of Israeli strikes, leaving its residents reeling.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Arabic): Gaza resident
"We had eight families living in this building who were already displaced. As we slept, our neighbors warned us about an incoming Israeli airstrike. We quickly fled, leaving everything behind.
Where can we go to stay safe? My family has a daughter with a heart condition, two elderly members, and two disabled individuals. There are other displaced families. The shelters are full, so we're unsure where to go."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Arabic): Gaza resident
"Today, I made it out alive from the bombing, and last year, rescuers saved me from the ruins just in time. I lost two children, my father, and my brothers in earlier bombings. Fourteen family members were gone. These attacks hit without warning.
Everyone in Gaza is struggling, needing aid vouchers just to get by. Hunger is widespread, and the suffering is beyond words."
