A boy left with one arm and one leg lives his dream of cycling round the world.

Guo Shaoyu was electocuted while climbing a transformer when he was only 14-years-old which injured his right arm and legs beyond repair in 2008.

However, the now 30-year-old said ‘he was determined to not stop enjoying his life' and has been travelling around the world pedalling his bike.

Footage shows Guo preparing to hit the road on a two-wheeler and enjoying the view as he travelled.

He said: ‘I have been to 23 countries so far including a gruelling trip through the Sahara desert.'

His latest journey was through Zambia and turned to Malawi which was his 12th destination.

He added: ‘I don't have a specific timetable or plan. That means no pressure. I just enjoy the scenery and the feeling of the wind blowing in my hair.'

Guo completed an 80,000km journey around China which ended in February 2023.

He said: ‘I've seen a lot of wonderful things, met a lot of wonderful people, and some difficult ones.

‘For example, I was robbed of my cell phone at one point. Many people have helped me as well.

'I had a lot of problems in Egypt because I couldn't find anybody that spoke English, nobody understood me, so in the end I set up my tent outside the village and then when the locals spotted me, they came and brought me food and in the end one of them invited me into his home.'

Guo said his curiousity has become his motivation.

He said: ‘I just want to come out and have a look. I'm curious. I don't have any big goals or ideals. I just had the idea and I decided to do it. And I don't regret it.'

Guo pointed that his hardest ride so far was through the Sahara desert when temperatures reached 40 degrees Celsius.

He said: ‘I noticed people say the Sahara [is dangerous] but I knid of wasrightly more along the edge of the desert although it was still very hard and there was a lot of sand.

‘I managed a couple of days and that was okay, if I'd done a week, it would have killed me.'

Guo added he was once stopped and questioned by police in Pakistan and thought they were arrresting him but realised that they wanted to invite him to stay and give him food.

He said: ‘They wanted to make sure I was safe and I was being looked after during my stay.'

After Malawi he plans to head to Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, and Ethiopia, saying: 'This time in Africa, I will have to visit at least four or five countries.' If everything works out in the second half of the year he plans to go to Europe or Australia.'
