STORYLINE:

STANDUP 1 (English): RUTH BARU, Xinhua reporter
"The electric vehicle conference has drawn the attention of many people here in Nairobi, the Kenya capital. According to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), there is an increased number of registered e-vehicles from 2022 to 2023 and according to the e-mobility association, currently, there are about 4,000 e-vehicles in this country, including motorbikes, cars, and even motorcycles. Evidently here at the exhibition, the Chinese brands seem to be popular. Many are saying they are attracted by the fair prices and the high quality."

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): HEZBON MOSE, Chair of the Electric Mobility Association of Kenya
"In Kenya, we have more than 40 companies that are doing EVs (electric vehicles). Chinese have played a huge role because most of the components, most of the products, are coming from China. So I think they are playing a critical role in the growth of EV space in the country today."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): JIT BHATTACHARYA, CEO of BasiGo
"China right now is the global leader in the electric vehicle industry. I think that is very important for us to acknowledge, especially now when you've seen the growth of companies such as BYD, really taking a leading position within this industry."

STANDUP 2 (English): RUTH BARU, Xinhua correspondent
"Here at the electric vehicle exhibition, one of the cars that has drawn much attention from the customers is Neta, a Chinese brand, we are going to be talking to one of the customers to tell us why they are interested in this Chinese brand."

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): DAVID MUNENE, Businessperson in Nairobi
"I'm particularly interested in the Neta model because it has good, impressive features. I have checked about the range. It's giving us about 380 kilometers on the full charge which is quite impressive. I have been looking around and I can tell that with Chinese products currently they are leading in the EV market in the country right now, and we are quite interested in this since it will give us both family and passenger usage."
