STORYLINE:

The 64th Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) is held in Zimbabwe's second-largest city of Bulawayo from Tuesday to Saturday.

Themed "Promote Made in Zimbabwe, Support the Industrialization of Zimbabwe," this year's event has attracted exhibitors from over 25 countries and regions, including about 40 from China.

During a sideline conference, Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding said China is committed to supporting Zimbabwe's innovation-driven development.

"As Zimbabwe's largest source of foreign investment, China plays a key role in propelling Zimbabwe's economic and social progress which has laid a solid foundation for Zimbabwe's innovation-driven development. Hundreds of Chinese companies are operating in Zimbabwe, generating tremendous forex income, tax revenue, and hundreds of thousands of job opportunities for Zimbabwe."

In an interview with Xinhua on the sidelines of the expo, a senior Zimbabwean government official said Zimbabwe seeks to harness China's innovation experience for industrialization.

"We are very grateful that we have opportunities to exchange ideas through innovation. Growth comes from ideas, and ideas are gotten in education, and relationships are forged within the education sphere. So the exchange of people, the exchange of ideas is very important for us as we ramp up our capabilities as a nation to reach the destination Vision 2030. It is extremely important that we have this mutually beneficial relationship between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Zimbabwe in the innovation ecosystem, in the industrialization ecosystem, and in the education, science and technology ecosystem."
