On 05/06/2024 a Tornado Warning was issued for Mountainburg, AR and a tornado tore a hole through the normally peaceful valley
On the early morning hours of 05/06/2024 a tornado struck to the East of I-49, landed in a open field before taking out a well built home, and then tore trees down and blocked an entire road with debris that emergency services were having to walk the 6 mile trek to check on people. I walked with them and examined the path due to my meteorology degree and tornado research and it was measured to have winds in excess of 160mph closer to the base of the tornado, and outer winds reached 90mph. This is the second tornado here in 3 years and before that one we’ve not had one since 1967. This tornado traveled an estimated 6 miles before fanning out in the open woods and dying out.
