Rafah, Gaza Strip - Recent

Storyline:
Those residents who are unable to evacuate from Rafah City due to lack of fund and transportation have been left with no other options but to stay amid the intensifying Israeli ground operations in the city.

Um Anas, one of thousands of displaced Palestinians, fled her hometown with her children last October from Israeli bombings.

After the camping site they settled down was bombed again by Israel, she moved to Rafah to seek asylum. Facing the imminent Israeli ground attacks against Rafah, she is confused about her future.

Ahmed Shamali, whose displaced family is merely making ends meet at a shelter site in Rafah, found it is almost impossible for his family to escape from the imminent Israeli attacks, as the transportation cost is unaffordable to the family.

The Israeli army has been continuing with the ground operation that started in the east of Rafah city, far south of the Gaza Strip, despite international warnings.

Israeli military vehicles in the areas east of Rafah began to take control of the Rafah border crossing amid continuous shooting, which triggered panic among the residents in the city of Rafah.

The Israeli forces also took control of the Rafah crossing and blocked aid convoys from entering Gaza, worsening a already dire humanitarian crisis that the people of Gaza are facing.

But now we will not be able to move from this place, not because I do not want to, but because we don't have enough money and the transportation costs are very high."
