We live in Tennessee and have witnessed a plague-like hatch of the 13 year periodic cicadas. Their cadence is quite deafening.

If you watch and listen closely here, you can see the cicada vibrating as it's calling out for a mate.

These bugs are really incredible, this brood (called "Brood XIX, The Great Southern Brood) lives dormant under ground for 13 years, and all hatch by the millions over the course of a few weeks when the soil temperature gets in their perfect range.
