Trees covered in cicadas as the insects invade Tennessee
A local in Englewood, Tennessee, filmed cicadas covering nearby trees as swarms of the insect invades the state.
The filmer told Newsflare: "We live in Tennessee and have witnessed a plague-like hatch of the 13 year periodic cicadas. Their cadence is quite deafening and they are out in the millions.
"I was getting some footage of these cicadas under a tree, when I noticed a 'sprinkling' raining down on my head, even though it wasn't raining outside.
"After some research, I discovered that the sprinkling was actually urine from the cicadas!
"These bugs are really incredible, this brood (called Brood XIX, The Great Southern Brood) lives dormant under ground for 13 years, and all hatch by the millions over the course of a few weeks when the soil temperature gets in their perfect range."
