STORYLINE:

STANDUP (English): ZHANG NAN, Xinhua correspondent
"The 14th China-U.S. Tourism Leadership Summit is being held in Xi'an, China's Shaanxi Province."

Themed "Expanding China-U.S. Travel and Tourism and People-to-people Exchanges," the summit drew nearly 400 representatives of the governments, institutions, and tourism-related enterprises of the world's top two economies to the ancient Chinese city of Xi'an.

Many of them spoke highly of the summit and are optimistic about China-U.S. travel and tourism cooperation.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): FRED WESLEY DIXON JR., President & CEO, NYC Tourism + Conventions, U.S.
"We're really excited to be back in China for the summit.  And there's a lot of optimism, which is terrific. We feel strongly that the people-to-people exchanges that travel brings are so important today more than ever. And we should encourage more travel between our two countries. There's so much to explore."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): ROBERT NEDERLANDER JR., President & CEO, Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment, U.S.
"Anything that makes it easier to travel is important, whether it's easier for visas, more flights, easier use of digital currency, all of these efforts help to make it easier and more comfortable for visitors from both countries. I think it sounds like both countries are striving to improve opportunities to come to visit each other. Tourism and culture go hand in hand. And with tourism, it's an opportunity to learn more about each other and realize how much we have in common."

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): ADAM JOHN FOSTER, Chairman, Helen Foster Snow Foundation, U.S.
"I think tourism is critical. It's a key to a healthy relationship. I think that the U.S.-China relationship is the most important relationship in the world. It's critical that we built bridges of understanding between our two peoples. And if we can do that successfully, the world will be a better place because of that."
