A family in Novot, Slovakia, managed to nurse a foal on the brink of death back to health after it was born without a sucking reflex.

The baby horse, aptly named Lucky, was not interested in getting milk from its mother seeing its condition gradually worsen.

Klaudia, the filmer, told Newsflare: "Our little colt was born this May and in the begining, everything seemed okay. However soon we find out that he had no sucking reflex.

"His condition was getting worse and worse as he showed no interest in milk in any form that was tried and given to him. We really hoped he would somehow get stronger so he would be able to survive but unfortunately, our hopes were getting low."

Thankfully, the family managed to aid the foal in kickstarting its sucking reflex so it was able to feed.

"We had to feed him with the tube and give him infusions. However then we heard about a technique, where you have to squeeze the colt for 20 minutes with the rope. It's supposed to somehow probably stimulate the birth and helps to kick the sucking reflex back on. And it worked!

"Little Lucky (thats what we named him afterwards) picked up on sucking the milk from the bottle first, then with a little help and two more squeezes he started to drink milk from his mama. We were so happy and grateful for this miracle," Klaudia added.
