Inconsistencies can be noted between America's industrial needs and different political interests in an election year, said an Argentine scholar when commenting on the recent decision of the U.S. to raise tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles and other products.

"The new tariffs imposed by the United States should not be understood as a trade issue, but in the context of a technological dispute."

"Inconsistencies can be noted between the industrial needs of the United States to have access to technology that would reduce the final cost of vehicles and, on the other hand, the different political interests in the context of an election year in the United States. This would affect the competitiveness of electric vehicles produced in the United States."

"As far as electric vehicles are concerned, it is China that has the competitive advantage, and not only in terms of finished electric vehicles, but also in terms of their components, I am referring mainly to batteries, one of the most important inputs for the manufacture of electric cars. China is a leader in the development of LFP (lithium-ferrophosphate) batteries."

"China is in a transition process that aims to change its energy matrix, transform consumption patterns and these efforts are being noticeable. These efforts have also resulted in the development of these new technologies that are making it possible to combat climate change, which is undoubtedly a contribution in general for the whole community."
