Martin County, FL, USA - June 12, 2024

The Martin County Sheriff's Office and emergency responders are grappling with the aftermath of severe weather conditions that have wreaked havoc across the region. Heavy rains accompanied by powerful gusts of wind have resulted in numerous road closures and dangerous driving conditions throughout Martin County.

Reports indicate that Bridge Road, just east of Gomez, has been particularly affected, with multiple trees collapsing and blocking the roadway. Authorities are urging residents to avoid the area until further notice.

In the south Hobe Sound area and parts of Jupiter Island, downed trees have compounded the traffic woes, while a particularly strong wind gust forced a pickup truck onto the tracks along Bridge Road and Dixie Highway. Damage to a train signal and crossing arm at this location has also been reported.

Additionally, the closure of Bridge Road from Gomez to the beach is in effect due to extensive damage caused by fallen banyan trees obstructing the route. Sections of Kanner Highway are experiencing flooding, further complicating travel for motorists.

Given the hazardous conditions, officials are advising residents to refrain from unnecessary travel and stay home if possible. The Martin County Sheriff’s Office has deployed high-water rescue vehicles to the Hobe Sound area to assist residents and motorists in need of assistance.
