Incredible NLCs appeared over the UK last night, glowing and casting shadows across the entire NW to NE night sky with amazing structures and colors. This rare display, the best since 2009, is caused by sunlight reflecting off meteoritic material encased in ice crystals. The footage, shot from Lough Fea, N. Ireland, was captured around 4am.

Incredible NLCs appeared over the UK last night which is entirely unexpected for solar maximum approaching, these clouds were glowing and casting shadows, took up the entire NW to NE night sky sporting amazing structures and colours. Best display I've seen since 2009!, these are caused by sunlight reflecting off meteoritic material encased in ice crystals. I shot this drone footage from Lough Fea, N. Ireland, its nearly 4am and I seen some sleep.
