STORYLINE:
This is Huoshan Mountain, a part of the Taihang Mountains. From the foot of the mountain, a pagoda can be seen from afar. That is the Feihong Pagoda.
STANDUP 1 (English): JIANG HAORAN, Xinhua correspondent
"This pagoda is a major attraction of Guangsheng Temple. Its predecessor was built during the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220)."
The Feihong Pagoda was certified by the World Record Certification Agency as the world's tallest colorful glazed pagoda. Its colorful glazed layers shimmer brilliantly under the sunlight. The pagoda, constructed with blue bricks, stands at a height of 47 meters.
STANDUP 2 (English): JIANG HAORAN, Xinhua correspondent
"Inside the Feihong Pagoda, there is an exquisitely crafted three-layer glazed caisson ceiling."
This set of caisson ceiling is in the shape of an octagon. The top layer is carved with eight dragon heads, all pointing towards the center, where the ninth dragon spirals.
Why could this glazed pagoda still shimmer brilliantly after around 500 years? Some experts attributed this to the flourishing glass-making industry hundreds of years ago. Glass-making techniques in ancient China reached a peak during some years of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The Feihong Pagoda was constructed during this period and is a representative work of Chinese glazed pagodas.
