The winding canals of Changzhou are intertwined with ancient streets and alleys, and the colorful gardens and beautiful landscapes complement each other. Changzhou is an ancient city in Jiangnan with a long history. With a history of over 7000 years of agricultural civilization, over 3200 years of written records, and over 2560 years of land construction, Changzhou has become a place full of stories.
Nowadays, Changzhou has developed into a metropolis, carrying the glory of industry, culture, tourism, and culture. As a central hub city in Jiangsu, Changzhou has developed rapidly in transportation, commerce, and industry, becoming a representative of modern cities. The beautiful title of livable city and Changle state makes people yearn for it. The first Buddhist pagoda in China is here, which is the Tianning Pagoda. The Tianning Pagoda is located in the Tianning Temple in Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province. The Tianning Pagoda was first built in April 2002, with a total construction area of 27000 square meters and a height of 13 floors and 153.79 meters, making it the highest among over 4000 pagodas in China; From the underground palace on the ground floor to the top bell tower, the entire pagoda is centered around Buddhist culture, using handicrafts such as Dongyang wood carving, Yangzhou lacquerware, Changzhou needlework, and Hui'an stone carving as expressive techniques, cleverly interpreting many teachings of Mahayana Buddhism. The completion of the pagoda echoes with the Yungang Giant Buddha in the north, the Longmen Giant Buddha in the central plains, the Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area in the west, the Lingshan Giant Buddha in the east, and the Temple of Heaven Giant Buddha in Hong Kong in the south, becoming the heart of five Buddhas in five directions. The Tianning Pagoda adopts the style of Tang and Song ancient pagodas in terms of appearance: octagonal eaves, dignified form, simple and rough, and grand momentum. On the top of the 13th floor of the pagoda, there is a 15 ton bell hanging from the bell tower. The bell body needs to be surrounded by several people, the wall of the bell is as thick as blue bricks, and the pillar for ringing the bell is thicker than the mouth of the bowl, requiring several people to work together. Although this big clock may not be the largest, its height of 118 meters is enough to make it the tallest clock. The sound of the bell is rich and melodious, and can be heard for ten miles. Every festival or grand occasion, the bell rings, giving birth to wisdom, increasing blessings, praising the peaceful and prosperous times, and wishing the country and people peace.
