STANDUP (English): YU JIAMING, Xinhua correspondent
"Cuteness alert. The panda we see is relishing on its birthday cake. This giant panda, along with its twin sibling, is turning eight years old this year. To wish the siblings a joyful birthday, a series of celebrations are held at Nanning Zoo in south China's Guangxi."

The giant panda twins, Jimei and Jilan, were born on June 27, 2016 at Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. They moved to Nanning Zoo in 2019.

They are offspring of giant pandas Meilan and Jili.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): PAN HAIYANG, Deputy director of Nanning Zoo
"It's the fifth birthday party we're throwing for them. The giant panda twins have grown up healthy and strong with the care of breeders from the panda breeding base and our zoo's animal care team. We've been gathering submissions online from photographers, artists, and video creators to create pieces about pandas, and today we're presenting them live on-site as well."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): QIN XU, Wildlife photographer
"This photo of Jimei was taken when he was having breakfast. That one is Jilan climbing a tree. And then this is taken by Ms. Chen when Jimei was sleeping. And this one is Jilan eating steamed cornbread."

SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): QIN XU, Wildlife photographer
"The reason we've been able to engage in animal protection photography, short video creation, and animal care is mainly due to the zoo's strong support, which allows animal lovers to participate in wildlife photography. Through these videos, we can admire the beauty and charm of animals while learning about their conservation. We actively participate in various activities organized by Nanning Zoo, such as regular photo exhibitions and competitions featuring birds, primates, and giant pandas. We also hope to welcome more wildlife photographers to join us."
