Switzerland: Air-Glaciers Rescues 7 People and Pets Amid Horrifying Rhone River Flooding
Switzerland - June 30, 2024
On June 30 morning, just before 7 AM, an Air-Glaciers crew was dispatched to assist in an evacuation in the Chippis/Sierre region following the overflow of the Rhone River. Coordinated with local firefighters, an aerial evacuation became necessary to swiftly remove those stranded in this inaccessible danger zone. A total of 7 individuals, along with 3 dogs and 2 cats, were airlifted using a method known as "human cargo," where rescuers and evacuees are suspended together in a cluster at the end of a fixed-length sling beneath the helicopter (50 meters in this morning's operation).
