Skilled rider takes down illegal drone in scenic area after repeated warnings ignored
This is the moment a descendant of Ghengis Khan's legendary army fires an arrow from horseback and takes down a drone flying illegally over a scenic area and scaring the animals.
The footage was reportedly filmed in Hulunbuir, in northern China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region. This region is home to various ethnic groups and stretches along the country's borders with Mongolia and Russia. It was shared online on Tuesday, July 9.
It captured how a tourist's drone kept flying over the large-scale equestrian performance 'Dance of the Horse' being held by members of the Barghu Mongolian tribe, despite it being prohibited.
The host had to pause the performance and repeatedly warned the tourist to stop, to no avail.
Finally, a man on horseback drew his bow and shot the drone down with an arrow, drawing comparisons with the fearsome fighting skills of the Mongolian horde of Ghengis Khan.
He is regarded as a national hero in Mongolia, and his legacy is a central part of Mongolian identity and history.
A staff member of the New Barghu Left Banner Barghu Mongolian Tribe Scenic Area later told local media that the drone had disrupted the performance and startled the horses.
Additionally, the area is a border region where drone flights are prohibited.
They said: 'We clearly posted notices, and the host repeatedly told him to remove the drone, but he didn't listen.
'After several warnings, we had no choice but to shoot it down.'
'We initially intended to report it to the police, but the person apologised and then left on their own.'
A spokesman for the Huhehada Border Police Station stated that many areas near the national border do not allow drone flights.
Individuals using drones for leisure or aerial surveying must first report to the public security department.
