Birmingham fire: Huge plumes of smoke spotted as blaze breaks out near Fort Dunlop
A huge blaze has broke out at an industrial estate in Birmingham as shocked locals described the scene as a "hell of a sight."
The fire has erupted near the M6 in the Tyburn area which is close to the landmark destination Fort Dunlop. Videos filmed by @Stukk11 shows a thick plume of smoke as far as Birmingham Airport. The footage appears to show that the blaze is taking place behind the popular store B&M.
Emergency services rushed to a steel frame sports equipment factory at Hastingwood Industrial Park on Wood Lane shortly after 3pm. Firefighters warned people to close their windows and doors if they are nearby. Birmingham Police has confirmed they are assisting fire fighters to help with road closures nearby. According to reports, shop workers and customers close to the incident have been evacuated
People reported seeing the smoke from as far away as Solihull which is 15 miles from the scene. More than 50 firefighters, 13 fire engines, three 4x4 brigade response vehicles and a hydraulic platform are battling the blaze. West Midlands Fire Service issued an alert on Twitter and said: "Multiple crews are currently in attendance at a fire on Hastingwood Industrial Park, Wood Lane, Erdington. Avoid the area and close your doors and windows if you're affected by smoke. This is a significant incident. Plan your journeys accordingly
