A woman was shocked when she looked out to see a bear sat in her garden.

Robin Kwestel, 63, was watching golf on TV and went to get a drink from the kitchen when she saw the large male black bear.

The mum-of-four said the bear - which she thinks weighs around 300lbs - was casually grooming itself.

Robin says the bear wasn't bothered by her - even when she tapped on the glass of her kitchen door.

The animal stayed for about five minutes before strolling casually off into the woods.

Robin, an elementary school teacher, from Rockaway, New Jersey, US, said: "I just thought it was a piece of construction."

"I was amazed how big his feet were, and that he was just sitting so calmly out in the open."

"We're near the woods and a lake so there are lots of animals, but I'm excited every time I see a bear."

"I probably see them once a week, but not so relaxed like that - normally you just get a glimpse as they walk by."

"It's hard to know how many there are, because you don't know if you've seen the same one or not."

"They aren't bothered by us and don't bother us. They seem happy just to live alongside us so long as we don't antagonize them."

The bears doze in nearby caves over the winter and venture out in the spring.

She spotted this one on July 13.
