Japan requests extradition of environmental activist Paul Watson.
The anti-whaling activist is wanted by Japan for causing damage in 2010 to a Japanese whaling ship.
Paul Watson, the founder of the NGO “Sea Shepherd” was arrested in Greenland “on the basis of the Interpol red notice, put in place in 2012 following the arrest warrant from Japan” . Captain Watson is known throughout the world for his defense of the oceans and particularly large marine mammals. He was arrested for sailing in the waters of the Danish Faroe Islands as part of Operation Bloody Fjords in 2023, which aimed to combat the slaughter of cetaceans in the archipelago. He is hated by the authorities of countries which continue to massacre whales, notably Norway, Iceland and especially Japan. It is the latter country which issued a warrant against him for having repeatedly thwarted the activity of Japanese whalers.
