Footage shows a protester allegedly attacking a policeman leaving the officer in critical condition in Missouri.

Officer Travis Brown of the Ferguson Police Department was knocked unconscious and rushed to the intensive care unit following the encounter with Elijah Gantt, 28, on August 9.

The incident occurred outside the police station as protesters attempted to dismantle a perimeter fence. Gantt allegedly charged at Officer Brown, causing him to fall and sustain a severe brain injury.

The apparent attack was captured on body camera footage released by Ferguson police and shown at a press conference. The video appears to show Gantt tackling Officer Brown, who struck his head on the pavement and lost consciousness.

Police Chief Troy Doyle condemned the incident, highlighting the seriousness of Officer Brown's injuries.

Gantt faces multiple charges, including assault, and is being held in custody on a 500,000 USD cash-only bond.

This incident has reignited tensions in Ferguson, a city central to discussions on police reform following Michael Brown's death in 2014.

Despite substantial reforms in policing, including mandatory anti-discrimination measures, the recent violence highlights persistent issues and has intensified demands for justice and unity.

A bond hearing for Gantt is scheduled for August 19, with a preliminary hearing set for September 11.

Officer Travis Brown, 36, known for his dedication to law enforcement, remains in critical condition as the community supports him and prays for his recovery amid the ongoing unrest.
