A family were horrified to find a cobra slithering through their bathroom.

Kriangkrai Saiwong, 39, had gone to use the toilet when he spotted the deadly snake slithering near the bowl in Udon Thani, northeast Thailand, on October 26.

The startled husband recorded the reptile as it raised its head and hissed. He slammed the door shut and called snake catchers for help.

Snake catchers arrived shortly after and discovered the 7ft cobra coiled on the floor. They safely captured the serpent and placed it in a fertiliser sack before releasing it outside the residence.

Kriangkrai said: ‘I went into the bathroom to relieve myself and was about to sit on the toilet when I saw a large black cobra spreading its hood and hissing.

‘I screamed in shock and ran out of the bathroom before calling the rescue team to capture it.

‘I am terrified of snakes, but I managed to take a video. I think it was a spitting cobra.

‘About five minutes before I went into the toilet, my mother heard the sound of something falling inside the bathroom.

‘I went in and found the cobra, which shocked me. I still get goosebumps thinking about it.

‘I believe the cobra had slithered along the olive tree behind the bathroom and entered through the vent before falling to the floor.'

Researchers found that 7,000 people are treated for snake bites each year in Thailand. Suchai Suteparuk from the Division of Toxicology at Chulalongkorn University reported that 30 of those die, with cobras being the biggest killer.

Earlier this month, engineer Kittiphoom Mamark, 39, was killed by a cobra while trying to remove it from his home in Samut Prakan province next to Bangkok.

The snake sank its fangs into his wrist, injecting him with potent venom that soon surged through his bloodstream.
