Las Condes, Chile - August 18, 2024

A fierce fire erupted outside the Escuela Militar Metro station in the Las Condes commune, engulfing a disused storage facility beneath the Apoquindo overpass adjacent to the station exit. The incident, which occurred at the intersection of Americo Vespucio and Apoquindo avenues, was marked by a thick column of black smoke visible at the scene.

Despite the alarming visuals, Santiago Firefighters swiftly brought the flames under control. The blaze, which primarily affected a warehouse containing fiberglass furniture, was tackled by three firefighting companies dispatched around 14:45 hours.

Captain Sebastian Mocarquer of the Santiago Fire Department stated, "The structure involved was an apparently disused warehouse that housed fiberglass furniture."

Metro authorities indicated that the fire is believed to have been caused by individuals living on the streets, a matter currently under investigation.

Fortunately, Metro services remain unaffected, operating normally throughout the incident.
