Hurricane Ernesto Tail end hits UK, Spectators perch on Crumbling Sand cliffs. Crantock, Cornwall, UK
Spectators perch above the collapsing Sand cliffs as waves undermine. Very high tide conditions due to a Spring Tide combined with a sea state whipped up by the remains of Hurricane Ernesto lashed the UK from across the Atlantic Ocean. The impressive Sand dune system at Crantock is carved by the encroaching waves and often vertical sand cliffs are created before collapsing back into the Ocean. Crantock Surf Life Saving Club had earlier posted warnings about the developing precarious nature of this constantly evolving coastline. The National Trust which owns this particular coastal location has formulated that the best and perhaps only possible plan for the future is to let nature reclaim this area as sea levels rise.
