This is the tear-jerking moment a mother received a pet cat as gift for her birthday following the death of her kittens.

Mum Lorena Gabuco, 54, was excited when her rescued stray gave birth to a litter of five in their home in Manila, the Philippines.

However, she was heartbroken when all the kittens died last month due to a disease so her children decided to make a surprise for her on her special day.

Footage shows Lorena being greeted by her kids on her birthday. One of them gave her a box, which she opened revealing an adorable moggy inside.

Lorena hugged the kitten named Kyoto and turned emotional while her children sang.

One of her daughters Gabbi said: ‘The kittens died due to feline leukemia virus. My mother was devastated when it happened. To cheer her up, we decided to give her a new kitten.

‘We named the kitten Kyoto because we recently had a vacation there and had a great time.'

Lorena and her four kids are now taking care of Kyoto and the other rescued dogs that live with them in their home.
