STORYLINE:

"Shanghai in My Mind" is an initiative that invites international designers to dive into the city's culture and brings fresh global design vibes to amp up Shanghai's city image.

Nik Aliye, an Instagram sensation with her dopamine art style, is totally in tune with today's trends. Let's hear what she has to say about her Shanghai adventure and the inspiration she's soaking up.

SOUNDBITE (English): NICOLE ALIYE, Dopamine artist
"Nihao InShanghai. Hi, I'm Nicole Aliye. I'm from Los Angeles, California, and this is my first time in China, especially my first time in Shanghai. I'm very excited to be here. It's really been a wonderful experience so far.
I think, as an American artist, very often we see all of the wonderful things coming out of China, but we never necessarily get to interact with them. So it's been a wonderful experience to see all of the culture and history in Shanghai.
My art is typically called dopamine art. My art is meant to be something that can grab you, pull you in, and help you feel a little bit of joy in your day-to-day lives, and to focus on the small details that make life beautiful.
I think Shanghai is full of many of those beautiful details from obviously the architecture. It's been very inspiring to see the way new architecture sits right next to the older architecture and the way that the city has so thoughtfully brought the two together and appreciated both.
The United States is a very young country in comparison to China, and we really admire the way that you honor your history and your beauty of design and the way that Chinese design has developed over thousands and thousands of years is very inspiring.
So my hope from 'Shanghai in My Mind,' is to create a work that not only is emblematic of this city, but also brings in my own style as well.
And often my works, when I start them, I don't have a plan, I don't have a sketch. I just focus on getting color on the page. And then as the work progresses, it starts to show me what it wants to be.
And I wanna make sure that you can recognize so many of the beautiful things that Shanghai has to offer in my pieces. But most of all, I hope that the work brings you joy, almost as much joy as this trip has brought me."
