STORYLINE:

An on-site training center in Cairo has helped local employees working in Egypt's Central Business District (CBD) project improve their skills and broaden their knowledge of the construction techniques.

The China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) is currently constructing the huge CBD project in Egypt's new administrative capital, which embraces a number of skyscrapers, including the 385-meter-high Iconic Tower, expected to be the tallest in Africa upon completion.

Established in 2020 by CSCEC Egyptian branch, the training center has offered professional courses covering over 1,000 engineers.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Arabic): FAHMY REDA, Egyptian engineer
"The Chinese engineers here have different expertise from those in Egypt. So of course we are trying to learn from them as much as we can, and see how they think and how they organize their work in order to be able to carry out a project of this size."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Arabic): FADY HANY, Egyptian engineer
"The lectures held by the company are free for everyone, workers and engineers, where Egyptians and Chinese get to know each other and exchange cultures and expertise."

Li Luoluo, the Iconic Tower technical engineer, is one of the instructors.

He has been working on the CBD project for six years.

SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): LI LUOLUO, Iconic Tower technical engineer
"I shared with them the procedure, working plan and specifications of the on-site construction. It aims to cultivate the ability to solve problems independently. Everyone is enthusiastic in learning."

SOUNDBITE 4 (Chinese): LI BINGHONG, Head of the training center
"I hope that through the training, we can cultivate more young engineers, especially Egyptian engineers, so that they can not only work in the CBD project, but also in other projects of Egypt in the future, and make greater contributions to their country."

Xinhua News Agency correspondents reporting from Cairo.
