SOUNDBITE 1 (English): ISABELLA ADAMS-ISRAEL, Nigerian train driver
"My experience has been good, challenging, and most especially, it has been fun, because it is like me practicing what I love to do every day. I am privileged to be driving people, students, business officials, dignitaries, a whole lot of people, commuting them from one location to another."
The 30-year-old mother of one now runs up to 54 trips daily on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line.
The line is the first rail infrastructure traversing Okokomaiko, a densely populated area in the western part of Lagos, and Marina.
It was undertaken by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) in July 2010 and completed in December 2022.
The first phase of the LRMT Blue Line corridor spans 13 km and covers 5 stations.
Isabella Adams-Israel joined the CCECC in 2018, initially working in the train signal and telecommunication department.
She convinced her husband to relocate from Abuja to Lagos to chase her dream of becoming a train driver.

"I had to tell my husband. At first he said 'no,' (and said,) 'That's a man's job. You cannot do this.' So along the line, I persuaded him. He agreed, and we moved."
After 8 months of classroom training and 3 months of hands-on field experience, Isabella Adams-Israel finally received her qualification after passing a test for driving a train without a supervisor.
SOUNDBITE 3 (English): ISABELLA ADAMS-ISRAEL, Nigerian train driver
"I feel very fulfilled, especially when kids board my train. I'd love to learn more because no knowledge is a waste."
