Why did it happen? ce cubes melt when heat is added to them, causing the water molecules within the ice to move more and overcome the attraction between them:

Energy transfer: Heat is a form of energy that is transferred from warmer objects to colder objects. For example, when you hold an ice cube, heat from your hand melts the ice.

Melting point: Ice melts at 0°C.

Molecule motion: As heat is added, the motion of the water molecules increases.

Breaking apart: The motion of the molecules eventually overcomes the attraction between them, causing the ice to break apart and melt into liquid water.

Liquid state: In the liquid state, the water molecules are more randomly arranged and can slide past each other.

Latent heat of fusion: The extra heat absorbed by the ice when it melts is used to break the attraction between the ice particles. This energy is referred to as latent heat of fusion
