Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh and his visiting Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, agreed on Tuesday to promote bilateral ties and cooperation between their neighboring countries.
"I am pleased to note that the traditional friendly relations and cooperation between the peoples of our two countries, our eternal neighbors, have strengthened over time, expanded with new content, and have now reached the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership," Khurelsukh said following official talks with Putin.
He emphasized that Putin's visit is of great importance for the development of friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation, particularly in the areas of energy, road transport, environment, culture, education, health, and humanitarian sectors.
For his part, Putin said, "During the talks with President Khurelsukh, we discussed many issues related to political, economic, and humanitarian cooperation. We also exchanged views on international and regional matters. As a result, several documents have been signed by both sides."
The documents, signed in the Mongolian capital of Ulan Bator, include intergovernmental agreements on cooperation in the energy sector and a memorandum of understanding on environmental protection.
Putin arrived in Ulan Bator on Monday evening for a two-day official visit, accompanied by a high-ranking delegation.
In 2019, Mongolia and Russia signed a permanent treaty on friendly relations, elevating their bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
