On September 19, 2024, the seasoned team from BrifLaza was rapidly redeployed to tackle a forest fire in A Mezquita, marking their second fire response of the day. The scene upon their arrival was one of urgency, with flames and smoke indicating a significant challenge ahead.
The firefighting crew, composed of 16 skilled forest firefighters and supported by two helicopters, immediately engaged in direct attack strategies against the blaze. This swift response is part of a broader effort by the firefighting units under the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO) to combat the increasingly frequent forest fires in the region.
The fire in A Mezquita follows a pattern seen across Galicia, where dry conditions and high winds have exacerbated fire risks. The #BrifLaza team had earlier in the day managed another fire in A Gudina, showcasing the relentless pace at which these units operate during peak fire seasons.
