Severe Floods Hit Cannes, Sweeping Cars Through Streets as City Recovers
Raging floodwaters tore through Cannes on Monday, flooding streets and pushing cars along the iconic French Riviera city. The video, filmed by Julie Phan-Perain on September 23, 2024, opposite the Palais des Festivals, captures the aftermath of the storm. While some areas remain submerged, the situation is steadily improving, with waters beginning to recede.
No injuries were reported from the flooding, but the city remains on high alert, recalling memories of the devastating 2015 floods that claimed 19 lives. The storm struck without much warning, with Mayor David Lisnard voicing frustration over the delayed government alert, which was issued an hour after the storm hit.
As the storm moves east, the French weather agency has warned of another potential storm in Cannes later in the afternoon. Residents and authorities are working to restore normalcy by the end of the morning, but vigilance remains high in this storm-battered region.
