STORYLINE:

China celebrated its 7th farmers' harvest festival on Sunday.

The country feeds over 1.4 billion people with only 9 percent of the world's arable land.

By the end of 2023, China has developed over 66.7 million hectares of high-standard farmland.

Various measures have been implemented to improve grain output, including building more high-standard farmland and promoting agricultural technologies.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): YUAN HUIJUN, Farmer in Yichuan County, Henan Province
"In the past, the harvest depended on the weather. Now, the government has built high-standard farmland, which is installed with special transformers. This year, the harvest of selenium-rich millet per mu (0.06 hectares) is 350 to 400 kg. It's a bumper year."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): LIU YONG, Farmer in Yanhe County, Guizhou Province
"In the past, it took me 2 to 3 days to finish harvesting rice. Now, it takes less than 2 hours (with harvesters). The harvesters can both harvest and thresh rice. It's so convenient."

SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): YU ZHAOHUI, Agricultural official in Suning County, Hebei Province
"We've used more than 80 drones to help autumn grain harvest."

SOUNDBITE 4 (Chinese): HUANG YUN, Agricultural official in Yingjiang County, Yunnan Province
"This year, we've adopted technical measures such as mechanization of rice harvest and green prevention and control of plant diseases and insect pests at the Yingjiang rural revitalization demonstration park, which has improved the yield and quality of rice."
