Beirut, Lebanon - September 24, 2024

Thousands of families have been forced to flee their homes amid Israel's large-scale airstrikes across Lebanon since Monday which have resulted in 558 deaths and 1,835 injuries as of Tuesday.

Many are moving north toward the capital, Beirut, through gridlocked streets, hoping to find safety.

For Hosein Nessr, all he was able to carry from his home in southern Lebanon to the temporary residence center was just a small bag of belongings.

The shelters are quickly filling up with refugees, who offer testament to the harshness of the Israeli attacks.

Tens of thousands of Lebanese residents displaced from various areas across southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley have taken shelter in schools turned into temporary shelters.

International organizations are helping to meet the needs of the displaced.

This is the most significant displacement and deadliest bombardment Lebanon has seen since its 33-day conflict with Israel in 2006.

Most residents say they hope that the escalation will not be prolonged or explode into all-out war.
