Two giant pandas living in a zoo in Austria for the past 20 years are now back home in China.

Yang Yang and Yuan Yuan left Austria on Friday, 13th September, and arrived in Chengdu, in south-western Sichuan Province, on Saturday.

They were transported on a cargo plane along with their favourite snacks, including bamboo, sweet potatoes and carrots.

The pandas had lived at Vienna's Schoenbrunn Zoo since 2003 as part of an agreement on giant panda protection and research with the China Wildlife Conservation Association (CWCA).

During their stay at Schoenbrunn Zoo, the world's oldest zoo, Yang Yang and Yuan Yuan were among the most popular animal stars.

The video shows pandas Yang Yang and Yuan Yuan leaving Schoenbrunn Zoo, in Vienna, Austria, in September 2024.
