The Ping River in Chiang Mai flooded overnight,causing tourists and locals to be evacuated from the hardest- hit areas

Hotel guests are transported by boat in the northern Thai city of Chiang Mai because of severe flooding. Staff are also brought in to work by the flat-bottomed boat.
The Ping River began overflowing last night when its level exceded 4.5 metres. At the time of writing floods continue to increase.
Many businesses are closed and damaged by water and mud. People are being transported by trucks provided by the local authority and the army.
There were traffic jams as vehicles moved to higher ground.
Since August 16, 37 Thai provinces and 193,307 families have been affected by flooding, with 49 deaths (Nation News Oct 3).
