Overflowing river floods roads and homes in Ireland due to heavy rain
Footage shows severe flooding in the town of Clifden in County Galway, Ireland, today (September 2).
Heavy rain overnight caused the water levels on the Owenglin River to surge, bursting its banks and overflowing onto nearby roads and homes.
Terrified residents watched the raging torrents and said it was the ''worst flooding the town has ever seen''.
Several roads were closed as emergency services rushed to secure the area and help evacuate stranded locals.
Met Eireann, the national meteorological service in Ireland, said most of the country would be hit with heavy rain and a there is a risk of localised flooding.
