This is the delightful moment a pygmy hippo floats on its back while chilling in a pool in Thailand.

A holidaymaker visiting the Chiang Mai Night Safari spotted the charming creature lying motionless in the water.

She said that she had never seen anything like it, so she decided to record the moment.

Initially, the visitor was worried that something might be wrong as the hippo remained still.

Suddenly, the pygmy hippo began to stir and flipped over, showing that it was just having a little snooze.

Pygmy hippos, native to West Africa, are classified as endangered due to habitat loss and hunting. Fewer than 3,000 are believed to remain in the wild.

A hippo is sometimes known as a river horse as the name 'hippopotamus' comes from the ancient Greek words 'hippos', meaning 'horse', and 'potamos', meaning 'river'.
