Baby hippo Moo Deng relaxes while having a pedicure paw rub
This is the adorable moment baby hippo Moo Deng relaxed while enjoying a pedicure paw rub.
The two-month-old female pygmy hippopotamus was being pampered by a zookeeper in her enclosure at Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chonburi, Thailand, on September 29.
Footage shows the animal lying on the ground as the worker gently massages her paw.
Moo Deng - whose name translates to 'bouncy pig' - is attracting large numbers of visitors to the zoo in Chonburi near the city of Pattaya.
Officials said the zoo has seen record ticket sales since the pygmy hippo exploded in popularity.
From September 1 to 23 alone, weekday attendance surged to 5,000 visitors daily, compared with fewer than 1,000 before Moo Deng. On weekends, numbers surged from as little as 2,000 to more than 10,000.
Pygmy hippos, native to West Africa, are classified as endangered due to habitat loss and hunting. Fewer than 3,000 are believed to remain in the wild.
A hippo is sometimes known as a river horse as the name 'hippopotamus' comes from the ancient Greek words 'hippos', meaning 'horse', and 'potamos', meaning 'river'.
