Bradenton, United States - October 13, 2024

As fuel shortages grip the region following Hurricane Milton, the Bradenton Police Department (BPD) has stepped up to manage the chaos, particularly at the Wawa on 75th Street & Manatee Avenue where they are directing traffic to keep fuel distribution orderly. With the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) assisting by escorting fuel tankers, authorities are working tirelessly to ensure residents receive their share of the scarce resource.

Traffic images from the Kay Rd. entrance to Tom Bennett Park, captured before 7 a.m. on October 13, 2024, reveal the scale of the fuel crisis on its second day at the emergency depot. The site, operational from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., allows a 10-gallon limit per vehicle, aiming to distribute the fuel as equitably as possible.

Amidst this, BPD issued an important reminder: leaving vehicles at gas stations while waiting for fuel deliveries could hinder the process, potentially delaying gas tankers.

Further, the Walmart on Cortez Road has run dry, with more fuel expected but no specific arrival time, underscoring the community's collective patience and resilience as they navigate through these trying times together.
