US, Los Angeles: Lancaster Child Fatally Shot in Home
Los Angeles, United States - October 17, 2024
10/17/2024 04:00 pm (GMT-0700) | LANCASTER, Calif. – The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau is investigating what Detective Lugo initially described as a "suspicious death" Thursday evening with information later released as a fatal shooting of a child.
At 3:46 p.m. Thursday, Lancaster Station deputies responded to the 44000 block of Dahlia Street in the city of Lancaster regarding a gunshot victim call, according to Lieutenant Steve De Jong with the LASD Homicide Bureau.
Upon arrival, they found a male child inside the location suffering from a gunshot wound. Deputies rendered aid until the arrival of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, said De Jong in a statement sent to KNN regarding the incident.
After the Los Angeles County Fire Department and paramedic personnel arrived, they pronounced the child deceased at the scene.
"Homicide investigators learned the child did not reside at the location; he was visiting a friend at the location. Family members of the child have been notified," stated De Jong.
A significant police presence remained at the scene as the investigation continued into Thursday night.
De Jong said investigators still need to conduct several interviews. A firearm was recovered from the scene. No arrests were made.
No additional information will be released at this time.
