"I struggled to conceive then fell pregnant and had TWO sets of twins"
A woman who miscarried and struggled to conceive has given birth to TWO sets of twins - despite having a 0.1% chance.
Alyssa Brooke, 32, miscarried after falling pregnant for the first time with her husband, Foster, 35, a teacher, and spent the next 18 months trying to conceive.
She started taking a fertility drug - progesterone - to help her ovulate and, to the couple's surprise, they found out they were expecting twins in December 2017.
After a rough pregnancy, little Kennedy and Finley were born at 32 weeks at 10:40am and 10:47am on June 11, 2018, both weighing 4lbs.
Two years later, Alyssa and Foster found out they were expecting twins again.
Little Christian and Lennon arrived on July 13, 2021, at 9:38am and 10:05am, weighing 4lb 12oz and 4lb 13oz.
Alyssa said that she would love a fifth baby but Foster always jokes they couldn't handle another set of twins.
Alyssa, a stay-at-home mom, from Twin Cities, Minnesota, US, said: "Having two sets of twins can be so challenging but rewarding at the same time."
"Seeing them all grow, seeing the fruits of your labour and seeing what they teach themselves is so amazing."
"Watching them from babies who can't do anything to people with little personalities - we feel honoured to watch them."
"I keep saying I want a fifth but my husband jokes that we couldn't handle a sixth but we haven't decided."
Alyssa had a miscarriage in July 2016 and struggled to conceive afterwards.
She started taking progesterone and on Thanksgiving 2017 found out she was expecting again - discovering it was twins that December.
Alyssa said: "After I miscarried, we started trying again and it took us a year and a half to get pregnant."
"We were very excited, my husband went absolutely white in the face."
"He was at grad school at the time and I was the only one working."
Alyssa said her pregnancy was "awful" and not what she expected."
At 32 weeks, Kennedy and Finley were born at the Mother of Birth Center, Minneapolis, Minnesta.
Alyssa said: "Naturally, they wanted to get out. I went into labour at work at 31 weeks."
"I was on my lunch break and I said I needed to go to the hospital to get checked and I would be right back."
"I ended up being put on observation for a week until they were born."
Alyssa said it "didn't feel real" when she took them home for the first time and it was a complete lifestyle change for them."
Two years later, Alyssa found out she was expecting twins again.
She said: "We tried again, we went on a different fertility treatment - femara - to decrease our chances of twins so it was a surprise."
"It was during covid so I found out on my own - it was definitely a surprise."
Christian and Lennon were born on July 13, 2021, at 35 weeks, at the Mother of Birth Center, Minneapolis, Minnesta.
Alyssa said it was a big adjustment bringing Christian and Lennon home for the first time.
She said: "I always said if I had two crying, it was OK but if I had three out of four melting down it was chaos."
"By that time, Foster was out of grad school so he was working full time."
"He was gone six through to six every day and it was me and the kids."
"I want to say those times were magical but it was really difficult."
Kennedy and Finley are now six years old and Christian and Lennon are three.
Alyssa said they have all grown into their individual personalities.
She said: "Kennedy is very focused and factual, she is only six years old and she will be reading a book on the Titanic."
"Finley is very creative, her mind is going 100mph - we have one who is nerdy and one who is a little bit of everything."
"Christian and Lennon are so sweet in public and so testy at home."
"They have personalities they have very strong personalities and opinions - it is their way or the high way."
"Whenever I run errands, I will rotate the four of them to come with me so I get a bit of time with each one."
