A large fire broke out at an Indian restaurant in Pattaya, Thailand.

The blaze tore through the kitchen of the four-storey Sultan Restaurant at 12:10 am local time on November 2.

Firefighters arrived at the scene, where smoke was billowing from a circuit breaker near a large gas cylinder on the first floor. They said the fire was controlled in 20 minutes.

Onlooker Udom Nathawin, 54, said he noticed several explosions before sparks fell from electric cables above the restaurant.

He said: Other people tried to extinguish the fire themselves, but it had already spread up to the third floor of the building.'

A fire department spokesman said: 'There were no injuries from the fire. We are investigating what caused it.'

House fires in Thailand are relatively common due to aging electrical infrastructure, extensive use of wood in home construction, and regional heatwaves that can exacerbate fire risks. Rapid fire response can also be hampered in densely packed neighbourhoods where narrow streets can delay firefighting efforts.
