United States - November 08, 2024 Dramatic footage from inside the Ventura County Air Unit Firehawks captured the intensity of aerial water drops over the roaring wildfire, which continues to consume vast swathes of land. As of November 8th, the fire has scorched 20,596 acres and is only 7% contained. A massive force of 2,420 personnel has been deployed, including 378 engines, 20 water tenders, 34 hand crews, 17 bulldozers, and 14 helicopters. Unified command between Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) and CAL FIRE Incident Management Team 5 is leading the response, supported by mutual aid partners. Damage assessment teams are currently verifying the number of structures affected. The community’s resilience is being tested, and local officials expressed their support: “Our thoughts are with all members of our local Ventura County community through this devastating incident.” The fire is being fueled by steep, rugged terrain and dry, receptive vegetation, which continues to challenge containment efforts despite a welcomed decrease in wind activity. An animal evacuation center has been established at the Earl Warren Showgrounds in Santa Barbara to aid those affected by the crisis. The battle continues as crews work tirelessly to protect lives and property in the face of this unrelenting fire.
