Palestinian death toll from ongoing Israeli attacks in Gaza rises to 43,552
Gaza - November 09, 2024 Storyline: Israel's unrelenting attacks on the Gaza Strip has killed 43,552 Palestinians and injured 102,765 others over the past 13 months since October 7, 2023, according to the enclave's health authorities on Saturday. In the past 24 hours, Israel's military operations in the besieged territory killed 44 people and wounded 81 others, according to the Hamas-run health ministry. According to Palestinian media, Israeli forces attacked multiple locations in the Gaza Strip from Friday evening to Saturday. In the southern Gaza Strip, the Israeli army launched an airstrike on a tent for displaced people in Khan Yunis, killing at least nine people, including women and children. The Israeli army launched another airstrike on a building in a refugee camp in Rafah. In the central Gaza Strip, the Israeli army attacked Deir al-Balah, killing three people. In the northern Gaza Strip, Israeli forces attacked residents near the Jabalia refugee camp who were collecting water, resulting in one death. Additionally, Israeli forces attacked Gaza City and killed 10 people. The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) reported on Friday that about 70 percent of the casualties in Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023 have been women and children. Highlighting the severe humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza and other areas, the OHCHR report confirms that, as of Sept. 2, 2024, it had verified the identities of 8,119 Palestinians killed in Gaza, including 2,036 women and 3,588 children, who together account for approximately 70 percent of the total fatalities. The report condemns the brutal targeting of civilians in Gaza and the severe breaches of international law, noting that many of these acts may qualify as war crimes. United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk stated in the report that the International Court of Justice has repeatedly stressed Israel's international obligation to prevent and punish acts of genocide, urging Israel to fulfill these obligations fully and immediately.
