Quetta, Pakistan - November 09, 2024 Storyline: Twenty-seven people were killed and 62 injured in Saturday morning's blast at a railway station in Pakistan's southwest Balochistan Province, according to health and police officials. Footage from Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) shows a scene in the aftermath of the attack at a local hospital, and the heavily damaged railway station with debris and military and civilian travel bags scattered on the ground. The attack occurred at around 8:20 a.m. local time on Platform No. 1 of the railway station in Quetta, the provincial capital, where the Jaffar Express was ready to depart, Pakistan Railways said in a statement. Military sources from Quetta said that the attack targeted soldiers who were leaving for their homes in other provinces after completing a training course in Quetta. The sources said that a suicide bomber detonated his explosive jacket in a crowd of over 100 people, including soldiers, railway police, and civilian passengers. The proscribed group Balochistan Liberation Army claimed responsibility for the attack in a press release shared with the media and on social media platforms. Police, security forces, and rescue teams rushed to the site and transported the bodies and injured to the hospital. Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and instructed the hospital administration to provide the best possible medical treatment to the injured.
