US: Donor Meets Boy Whose Life She Saved with Her Liver
Cleveland, United States - November 13, 2024 A powerful moment of gratitude and connection unfolded when Sandy Flash met Sonny, the boy she saved through her selfless decision to become a living organ donor. Sandy donated a portion of her liver to Sonny, who was born with biliary atresia, a condition that required a liver transplant. Sonny’s mother, Katie White, was overwhelmed by the encounter, saying, "Sandy gave a piece of herself to save my baby’s life. Organ donation is truly an unconditional gift." Sandy, who had been inspired to donate after her husband’s own liver transplant, shared that meeting Sonny for the first time was deeply fulfilling. "Next to having my own children, this is the most fulfilling thing I’ve ever done," she said. Sonny, now thriving after the transplant, has made remarkable progress in his growth and development, according to his pediatric gastroenterologist. “Sonny is a remarkable child – he’s caught up in his development and is a playful, energetic boy,” said Dr. Deborah Goldman. The emotional meeting of donor and recipient was a moment of profound gratitude for both families, with Katie expressing relief and joy in meeting the woman who gave her son a second chance at life. Sandy hopes her story will inspire others to consider becoming living organ donors
