Bright red crabs appear after rain on Christmas Island, Australia
The first wave of bright red crabs on their annual migration appeared after rain on Christmas Island.
Footage shows a swarm of crustaceans crawling on rocks by the shore in the Australian territory on November 13.
The migration is triggered by the season's first rainfall, and the crimson marine animals navigate roads to gather at the beach to mate.
Adult Christmas Island red crabs leave their forest burrows and migrate massively to the coast to spawn in the ocean. They must cross forests, roads, and even villages to reach the shore.
Christmas Island is located in the Indian Ocean, closer to Indonesia than mainland Australia. Despite its location, it is governed by Australia and is known for its unique wildlife, especially the famous red crab migration.
